Spray Tan Tips
1
Exfoliate! This is one of the most important steps when it comes to preparing your skin for a spray tan. It is recommended that you exfoliate the day before your appointment and that you remain gentle with your skin throughout the self-exfoliation process. Use a clean loofah or any non oil-based products that have a gritty scrub in it.
2
Shave any unwanted hair prior to your spray tan, preferably the day before. Shaving after your spray tan can cause your tan to fade quicker than it normally would. If shaving on a regular basis is important to you, try to be careful and not too aggressive while doing it.
3
We recommend you have any facial or body waxing done prior to your spray tanning appointment. Any waxing done after your spray tan may effect the color of your tan in those areas.
4
Do not apply any lotions, deodorant, face makeup, perfume or powder to your skin prior to your spray tan. These products can block the adherence of the spray tan to your skin, potentially resulting in blotchy coloration. Try to come to your appointment with clean skin, free of any products. If your spray tan appointment is after work and you’re wearing deodorant and makeup, we have wipes in the spa and are more than happy to assist in product removal prior to your spray tan appointment.
5
Bring or wear dark, loose-fitting clothing to your spray tan appointment. It is possible and quite normal for the skin to feel tacky at the end of your appointment. To alleviate this feeling, we allow plenty of time for your body to dry. Regardless, having on loose dark clothing helps keep your tan intact. The spray tanning solution contains a bronzer so it is possible that the product could get on the inside of your clothes or your linens. While it is unlikely that the product will stain your garments, we cannot guarantee it. We recommend wearing long sleeves and long pants to bed to help prevent the bronzer from coming off on your sheets.
6
Having eye lash extensions is perfectly fine and will not be effected by a spray tan. You can also have on mascara, eyeliner, lipstick, lip gloss, lip balm and nail polish for your appointment. None of these beauty products will negatively effect your spray tan.
Taking care of your spray tan after your appointment:
We recommended that you shower 8-12 hours after your appointment if you use our Original Glow formula, and 1-3 hours after your appointment if you use our Express Glow formula. Taking a shower before the suggested time frame may effect the color and results of the spray tan.
We strongly suggest you avoid unnecessary exertion and exposure to water until after your first shower. Sweating or getting the skin wet prior to your first shower may cause discoloration of your tan.
Because there is a bronzer in the spray tan solution, you will see a deepening of your skin tone immediately after you are sprayed. The color will continue to darken as the solution develops and will lighten after you shower off the bronzer. You will see color coming off in your first shower. This is normal. Your spray tan is not washing off, it is just excess bronzer.
We recommend you avoid wearing a sports bra after your spray tan. If you have to put your bra back on after your appointment, we recommend wearing a strapless bra or tucking the bra straps in to prevent any rubbing off of your spray tan.
Keeping your tan
for days to follow:
After you shower, pat your skin dry with a soft towel. Try not to aggressively scrub, exfoliate, or rub your skin as this may effect your color.
Keep your skin moisturized daily and avoid body washes, creams & lotions that have oils or alcohol in them.
Moisturizing helps extend the life of your tan and it helps your tan fade into a more even, natural glow. We recommend using a hydrating, non-scented/fragrance-free & alcohol-free moisturizer.
Heavily scented lotions tend to have a lot of alcohol in them which dries our your skin and can cause early fading. Avoid Bath & Body Works products, Victoria’s Secret lotions, Aveeno products and any anti-aging products. Also avoid anything with retinol or glycol in them as these are exfoliants and will cause your spray to fade quicker.
After time, you are going to notice the color of your tan fading. When this happens, you can start exfoliating your skin in preparation for your next tan.
We carry a line of products that will help prepare your skin for a long-lasting tan along with products to extend your tan’s longevity. We do not recommend using self-tanning sprays and lotions that can be bought at drugstores, as they may have an adverse effect on your tan.”
